Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people. He also achieved the status of a superstar through his pop-folk songs based on folk, many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. grew up in Roswell New Mexico. However, he discovered love for Colorado. He eventually settled in Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown the curator of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame stated the following: John Denver was by far one of the most popular musicians who was a symbol of Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. He is now the symbol of Colorado for people worldwide. When I travel, I always encounter someone on the other side of the world or someone from New Zealand and you say 'I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes out of their mouth is"Oh John Denver! Brown clarified. Denver's first Top 10 hit as a solo artist after a brief career performing in small folk music groups comprised of Take Me Home Country Roads composed by Bill Danoff. Danoff composed the tune to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized its potential when he first heard it. The song was recorded by the singer just a few days later after performing it to the awe-inspiring crowd on the streets of Washington D.C.
